At Maltby Academy, a range of strategies and programmes are used to ensure that students make rapid and sustained progress in Numeracy, as well as developing a love for Mathematics.
In Key Stage 3, all students complete a programme called 'Times Table Rockstars' - a programme for raising attainment and engagement in Numeracy skills. As part of this programme, students take regular quizzes on the times tables 12 x 12 to secure their understanding.
Across all Key Stages, a range of departments in the Academy use the key skills taught in Maths lessons to promote Maths across the Curriculum (MAC). The MAC agenda takes many forms, from topics co-taught in subject areas for example, graphs in science and coding in ICT, to tutor time sessions that encourage peer support of Maths topics with students from all year groups working together to solve challenging mathematical problems.
We also encourage a love of Mathematics through challenges such as the UKMT individual and group challenges and work with the universities to provide experience of higher level mathematics to our most able learners.
