Mr Jackson first became a Parent Governor at Maltby Comprehensive School in 2008 and worked with the Board of Governors and Senior Management staff on the transition to Academy status. On becoming an Academy, Mr Jackson stepped down as a full Governor but continued as an Associate Member of the Raising Attainment Committee (RAC). In 2015 he took up post as a full member of the Academy Governing Body and is currently the Chair of the RAC. He also has responsibilities for Health and Safety. He first attended Maltby School in 1970 and all three of his children have attended the school. He has lived in Maltby since 1997.
On leaving Maltby School in 1977 Mr Jackson started work with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as a Physicist. He has gone on to gain a Master of Science degree in Ergonomics and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. He retired from his post as a Specialist Human Factors Inspector in the HSE Hazardous Installations Directorate in 2016. He now uses his spare time to support the work of the Academy and pursue his interest in writing and recording his own music.
In his time as a Governor Mr Jackson has seen massive improvements in academic performance, the transition to Academy status and the building and provision of some of the best learning facilities in the area, making Maltby Academy one of the best schools in South Yorkshire. It is his intention to use his skills and knowledge in Sciences and Health and Safety to ensure that the Academy continues to build on its success and remains an outstanding place of learning.
