Admissions

Welcome to the first stage of your child's move to Maltby Academy.

This is an important time for you and your child.

Maltby Academy follow the admission arrangements set out by the Local Authority of Rotherham. The admission arrangements follow a four-step process.

Rotherham Council's school application information can be found on their website. Within the website search for 'secondary application' or follow this link.

Download the Admission to Secondary School 2022 booklet below.

Step One - A parent expresses preferences for up to three secondary schools and ranks their preference in order.

Step Two - The appropriate admissions authority will determine whether or not the child is eligible for admission to each school.

Step Three – A child could be eligible for admission to more than one school. For each school where the child is eligible for admission there is a potential offer of a place. The school at which a place will be offered will depend upon the order the schools are named on the Common Application Form.

Step Four – The parent of a child resident in Rotherham who has completed a Common Application Form receives a written offer of a school place from Rotherham authority on the 1st March.

KEY DATES

  • The online application service will open on 1 July 2021. It will close on 11 November 2021.
  • The Government has deemed the National Closing Date for receipt of applications as 31st October 2021. You are advised that your application should be submitted by this date.  If your application is late, you will be far less likely to get a place at your preferred school.
  • Secondary National Offer Day - Tuesday 1 March 2022

Oversubscription Criteria

On the national offer day, the admissions team will establish a waiting list for secondary schools in Rotherham where the number of applications for those schools has exceeded the available places in Year 7. Your child’s name will automatically be put on the waiting list for a school where they have not been made an offer of a place and where that school is ranked higher than the school at which an offer has been made.

All parents need to be aware that their child’s name will not automatically be placed on the waiting list for a school which is named as a lower preference on their Common Application Form than the school for which they have received an offer of a place.

Applying for a place during a school year

If you wish for your child to transfer secondary school during the school year, you need to complete a Common Application Form from the admissions team at Rotherham Council to request a transfer. This form is returned to the admissions team.

If you are not a resident in Rotherham but wish to apply to a Rotherham secondary school you should contact your local authority for advice on how to submit an application.

Transition
