Maltby Academy Receives National and Local Recognition for Student Success and Inclusion

Maltby Academy, part of Place Partnership – A Multi-Academy Trust, is celebrating both national and local recognition after being honoured for its commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and educational excellence. The academy has been named one of the top-performing schools in the country for supporting students during their transition to secondary education, while also receiving recognition for its outstanding inclusive provision.
The academy has been recognised through the 2026 Edurio Awards, a national programme celebrating excellence across the education sector. Based on responses from pupils, staff and parents collected during the 2025/26 academic year, the awards recognise the top-performing schools nationally across a range of categories. Maltby Academy was named a winner of the KS3 Transition Award, placing it among just ten schools nationally to receive recognition in the category.
The award reflects the positive experiences reported by students and the academy's ongoing commitment to creating an environment where young people feel a strong sense of belonging, remain engaged in their education and are supported to thrive throughout their secondary school journey.
The national recognition follows another significant achievement for the academy this year. Maltby Academy was recently recognised through Rotherham's inaugural Celebrating Inclusive Practice Awards, receiving the Best Inclusive Provision Award for its whole-school commitment to inclusion.
The award highlighted the academy's significant reduction in permanent exclusions, continued investment in a broad and flexible curriculum, and the strong academic and vocational pathways available to students. The nomination also recognised the successful extension of the academy's on-site alternative provision (EXCEED) to ensure young people continue to access education within a familiar and supportive environment.
Together, these awards demonstrate the impact of a culture where student voice, wellbeing, inclusion and opportunity are central to everyday academy life. They provide recognition not only of academic success, but of the positive experiences and support that help young people flourish both personally and educationally.
Richard Wood, Principal of Maltby Academy, said:
"We are incredibly proud to receive both national and local recognition for the work taking place across our academy. The Edurio award is particularly meaningful because it is based on the experiences and feedback of our students themselves."
"At Maltby Academy, we believe that every young person should feel that they belong, are valued and have the opportunity to achieve success. To be recognised nationally for the positive experiences of our students, while also being recognised locally for our inclusive practice, is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the strength of our academy community."
As part of Place Partnership, the academy's success reflects the Trust's vision that People Belong, Place Matters and Purpose Lasts. Through a relentless focus on inclusion, belonging and high-quality educational experiences, the Trust continues to create schools where every child and young person can flourish.
For Maltby Academy, this double recognition is a powerful endorsement of the academy's commitment to putting students first and ensuring that every young person is supported to achieve their full potential.
