Fred Trueman OBE Blue Plaque Unveiling

Maltby Academy host the Fred Trueman OBE plaque unveiling.

Maltby Academy hosted the Fred Trueman OBE plaque unveiling which saw a Blue Plaque dedicated to Fred Trueman OBE be erected on the wall outside the Sports Hall at the Academy.

 

The Rotherham Civic Society and Maltby Local History Society secured the Blue Plaque to remember Mr Trueman OBE who attended school here from 1942 – 1945. Fred Trueman OBE was a Yorkshire and England Cricketer and BBC commentator.

 

The unveiling was attended by local community members, counsellors, governors and Fred’s family members including his sister, Mrs Flo Halifax. The ceremony was an occasion to remember his legacy as Fred’s sister and friend Mr Ron Buck spoke about him. MA student Ben Richardson also spoke about his love of sport and success in cricket during the ceremony. Mrs Halifax unveiled the blue plaque which will be seen by many people who visit Maltby Academy.
