National maths problem solving competition

Sixth Formers take on a maths challenge!

Fourteen Y13 mathematicians have taken part in a national maths problem solving competition where they worked individually to try to solve questions. Seven of the students were awarded with a certificate following their excellent performance in the challenge, with Josh Pearce being awarded a gold certificate and subsequently qualifying for the next round taking place on Friday 27th November.

Good luck Josh!

Louis Hunt, Alex Slack, Alex Wilson and Josh Pearce have also taken part in the Team Challenge at the University of Sheffield. The Team Challenge promotes mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills. It is an opportunity to compete against students from other schools in the region. The competition from other schools was fierce and the Maltby Academy team competed well and came 15th out of 22.

Well done to the team for their fantastic effort.
