MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Curriculum Intent
In our Academy, Modern Foreign Languages foster pupils’ curiosity, creativity and appreciation of other languages and cultures. It provides students with the skills to communicate in both speech and writing with people around the globe, whilst developing essential cross-curricular skills.
Our curriculum is built on an understanding that language learning is not the study of Spanish language alone, but a cultural experience. Our students develop an appreciation of hispanophone countries through language, music, history and geography. Our students experience a broad range of high-quality authentic texts in a variety of formats including videos, novels, songs and newspaper articles.
We believe our curriculum is grounded on the reinforcement of cultural awareness and cross-curricular skills such as communication, memory, logical thinking and interpersonal skills. We encourage creativity through engaging, realistic contexts where students gain the confidence to manipulate language to achieve the given aim.
